A Commission!

Someone asked me to make these little pots for her succulent plants. They each stand about two inches high and have a small hole in the bottom for drainage. Notice that they’re all pretty much the same shape and size! The color is all underglaze painting with a clear glaze finish over the top. My customer was thrilled with these.

A fun vase. I bisqued with black, white, and red underglaze, then clear-glazed the white inside and the red buttons, leaving the black unglazed. It came out as a soft black patina. I’m learning how to get my true blacks! Not easy to do with glaze, but easier and more successful with underglaze.

A Soda Ash Coffee Mug

SodaAshCup

I decided to try soda ash on a coffee mug that had a simple underglazed design to see what would happen to the underglaze. I was not disappointed. The outside of the mug feels rough, but not unpleasantly so. The abstract red design appears as soft matte with a burr. I figured that no one would want to feel roughness on their lips or tongue when drinking from the mug, so I clear-glazed the inside and rim, which are nicely smooth.
